Grain Surfboards -- Part 1 of

Hi Shredability’s Jake Burghart gets in the van with Mikey Detemple and Hi Shred veterans Scotty Stopnik, and Kassia Meador to travel up the coast to Southern Maine, as Mikey shoots his second film, Sight/Sound.

The dudes at Grain Surfboards invited Mikey to bring some people up and handcraft some wooden surfboards. It was supposed to be a tidy little scene in Mikey’s new movie, but no one realized just how hard and time-consuming building a wooden surfboard would be, especially when the distractions of fresh lobster, curious farm animals and perfect waves were added to the mix.

Young video directors on the rise!

Technology’s a double-sided sword. Nowadays it is easier than ever for a young director to get their work seen but of course that means there are more directors and films about too. I guess it having to stand out from the rest of the crowd by taking risks, being creative and going against the norm!

I think the attitude towards new video directors is changing, music video commissioners are keen to use them. I think music video commissioners have an appetite for new directors. It’s a very fashionable industry I think, in that videos that get passed around are doing something new. So new = desirable. New directors often mean cheaper too, fair enough and another reason to desire them!

Check out Daniel Mckenzie-Cossou, a young video director on the rise who recently produced, shot and directed a promo for Dynasty Dance!
This was shot in late November and was completed just before the end of 2010, for the purpose of promoting their dance group in 2011.

What I love about new video directors, is that they take risks by breaking rules by giving there interpretation of what they visualize which is so cool! Sometimes you just have to say "STUFF IT"  I'm not following the book, I'm just going to create what I see!

A Tribe Called Quest Documentary (Trailer)

Actor Michael Rapaport has been working on a documentary about legendary hip-hop group A Tribe Called Quest for years — and now a new trailer offers a tantalizing look at what's in store. The film, Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest , features extensive interviews with members Q-Tip, Phife Dawg, Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Jarobi, and details the quartet's pioneering career during the 1990s, the issues that initially split them up (and flared up again during a recent reunion tour) and Phife's ongoing diabetes-related health problems.

(The group's fractious relations are referenced in an apparently joking title shown at the end of the trailer: Beats, Rhymes & Fights.)

The doc features appearances from Kanye West, Nas, Mos Def, the Roots and many others who testify to the group's resounding influence, which includes humorous lyrics, previously unplumbed jazz samples, a mellow swagger and, as the Roots' ?uestlove puts it, the fact that the group "managed to rewrite the song structure for hip-hop."

n 24 November 2010, while students across England staged walkouts in protest to cuts in education funding, a few thousand in London attempted to march on Parliament. Unfortunately, since they destroyed the Tory headquarters two weeks ago, the police weren’t about to let them reach Parliament, so instead they kettled thousands of stoned, angry hippies and excited sixth formers into a small space and let them destroy that instead. The crowd were kept there for over nine hours.
