High Class Problems Vol. 1Featuring the new single‘Private Garden’ (Produced by 9th Wonder)Release date 8 February 2010On Hevlar Recordings“The man is a legend with hero status in Bizarre Towers…” Gordon Smart, The Sun “Smooth and laid back, it's the perfect chill-out song…” Rickie Haywood-Williams, MTV Presenter“It’s certainly easy to picture the cool, laid-back tracks being played in clubs and wine bars across the UK…” Keysha Davies, Pride Magazine“Honey dripping cool soul for the grown and sexy…” Chris Phillips, Choice FMFebruary will see Driis release his new hip hop soul EP ‘High Class Problems Vol 1’, featuring his brand new single ‘Private Garden’ produced by 9th Wonder (Jay-Z, Nas, Mary J Blige and Wale). Driis, the musical alter ego of Hackney-born entertainer Idris Elba has been carving out a name in music for years, producing, performing and DJing whilst honing his craft. The uplifting 5-track EP includes the popular Pete Rock-produced single ‘Please Be True’, leak track ‘Best I Can’ as well as new material, preparing music fans for the hotly anticipated album due out late 2010 on Hevlar Recordings. The new single ‘Private Garden’ yet again reveals Driis’ softer side as he attempts to break down the barriers of a broken heart. Delivered in Driis’ trademark style, romantic but raw, masculine yet poetic, the track provides a great teaser for the upcoming release. Finding time during his hectic Hollywood schedule to get back into the studio, perfecting and tweaking his distinct sultry vibe, ‘High Class Problems’ showcases Driis’ maturity as an artist as well as his wide musical palette. “’High Class Problems’ shows off my DJ mentality,” Driis insists, “having that ability to hear what sounds work well together, even if they’re from totally different genres, allows me to push the creative envelope and experiment.” Ever so smooth and confident, it is a skill he has shaped since the early Nineties, having DJ’ed inLondon’s and New York’s hottest clubs. You’ll even find Driis production credits on soundtracks and albums dating back to 2005, including work with Angie Stone and Jay-Z on the seminal ‘American Gangster’ album.Driis is determined that the quality of his music will speak for itself and free him from the actor/musician curse. “It’s a well-trodden road, the whole actors wanting to do music thing,” Driis admits, “but hopefully the passion and heart I’ve put into the release will be clear for all to see, and the music will be judged solely on its merit.”2010 is set to be another huge year for Idris, who made his name starring as the infamous Stringer Bell in HBO’s The Wire. Not only will he be starring in major blockbusters including Takers, The Losers and his executively produced feature Legacy, but Driis will also be performing at a series of lives dates across the UK, Europe and the US, as well as several DJ guest spots. As ever there has no been no shortage of top name DJs wanting to offer their services for free in order to mark their respect for the man who created the beats that keep clubs they work bumping week in week out guaranteeing our strongest line up to date.4 years after his untimely death from complications brought on by Lupus disease J-Dilla’s status and appeal continues to grow so we expect what is widely regarded as “THE” Hip-Hop event of the year to be even more popular than the previous 3 years that have seen Cargo packed to capacity within two hours of opening. We have pre-empted this not only by moving to a larger venue but through the availability of more advance tickets including the special VIP tickets that grant access to the VIP bar and balcony and special delivery of the ever popular exclusive T-Shirts designed for the event and a CD of Dilla’s work.In his brief 32 years J-Dilla, otherwise known as Jay-Dee or James Yancey created and shaped a new sound for Hip-Hop that inspired beat smiths, MCs and music lovers around the globe. With an incredible line of production credits for De La Soul, Tribe Called Quest, Erykah Badu, The Pharcyde, Janet Jackson, Busta Rhymes, Common, D’Angelo, his own crew Slum Village and so many more it is little wonder that he has been described as a visionary, a genius & the quintessential producers’ producer by some of the most respected names in the game. The fact that both Pharell Williams & Kanye West name him as their major inspiration speaks volumes to the influence of his distinctive “Dilla sound”. His own albums “Rough Draft” & “Donuts” on Stones Throw, “Welcome 2 Detroit” & “The Shining” on BBE Records alongside “Jay Loves Japan” and his work on his brother Illa-J’s album “Yancey Boys” stand out as masterpieces of modern music production and capture the imagination of producers, DJs & all music lovers across the world. Some of the UK’s most respected DJs will be stepping up on the night to play their favorite tracks by a true legend. The Extended Players are the UK’s strongest Hip-Hop DJ dream team & will be represented on the night by Shortee Blitz & Mr Thing. With a wealth of club, radio, production, mixtape & battle experience between them they are without a doubt the most versatile and well rounded team on the scene.Spin Doctor is firstly a massive fan of J-Dilla and as the driving force behind The Doctor’s Orders promotions so there was no way this event was not going to happen every year to celebrate the memory of his favourite producer. It is his passion for Dilla’s work that has guaranteed that it is the not to be missed event of the year! This year he goes further by introducing a J-Dilla tribute night at The Doctor’s Orders Brighton and a specila Dilla edition of his popular Hip-Hop Pub Quiz.A new edition to the line up this year is Hip-Hop’s first lady Sarah Love. As her 1xtra show and MOBO nomination attest Sarah is no slouch when it comes to her passion for underground Hip-Hop and her ever growing fan base is sure to increase once again as she hits the stage with a special selection of Dilla’s R&B & Soul productions. Having played at the launch party for J-Dilla’s “The Shining” (BBE Records) & all tribute nights so far Marc Mac (4Hero / Visioneers) is back on board again to show the influence his incredible body of work had on him as both a DJ & producer.Back for the second time this year is a man who has enjoyed the privilege of working alongside and remixing beats for J-Dilla, Morgan Spacek. An incredible producer in his own right he his recent DJ sets at The Doctor’s Orders parties have all gone down a storm so we can expect more of the same tonight. As a producer the influence of J-Dilla genius is apparent in Kidkanevil’s work that fuses the worlds of Jazz and Hip-Hop in modern soundscapes that are as lush as they are funky. Having been a highlight of all the events he has spun for The Doctor’s Orders to date it is with open arms that we welcome him onto the stage in tribute to the late great James Yancey.Bruce Wayne is a rising star on the London Hip-Hop circuit and is sure to do his ever growing reputation no harm tonight. As equally inventive as he is skilled on the decks he is going to be blessing the capacity crowd with a set of unreleased and rare J-Dilla beats that are the holy grail of all his fans.DJ Lok who has never played a set without at least one J-Dilla beat slipped in somewhere. As a massive breaks collector he will be treating fans to a selection of the music that inspired the man that inspired so many!ROOM 2 offers something a little different and special for not only fans of J-Dilla but all Hip-Hop heads. We have drafted in two of the West End’s strongest events to co-host this room. While Southern Hospitality’s Hip-Hop Karaoke will be adding a selection of J-Dilla’s work to their regular list of Hip-Hop bangers that joe public can get up and perform. Joining them are the Livin’ Proof DJs that are responsible for packing out Market Place every month with their own brand of underground Hip-Hop and Soul.
