The Chaser Years.....The Photographic Art of Pete Williams

We had the privilege of having our pictures taken down at the Maverik Showroom by the legendary Pete Williams who has also taken pictures for DJ Shadow, Represent, Sizzla, Soweto Kinch, The Roots, Courtney Pine, Nina Simone to name a few....
Pete Williams has be taken pictures for 'Straight No Chaser' Magazine for many years, so this was to showcase his work from over the years
So I was pretty chuffed that he wanted to take our pictures.
It was a great night, I got a chance to mingle and meet some cool people. It was like everyone there was about something which was refreshing.

This exhibition runs until the 20th Nov

The Chaser Years.....The Photographic Art of Pete Williams Today at 18:00 - 20 November at 16:00

A Straight No Chaser + Maverik Showroom Collaboration
The Chaser Years
The Photographic Art of Pete Williams
12th - 20th November 2010
...

11th Nov. Private View

THE CHASER YEARS: The Photographic Art Of Pete Williams is the first event in the build up to a major exhibition, in the summer of 2011, that will unleash the Interplanetary: Ancient to Future vision of Straight No Chaser magazine. This show is synchronized with the London International Jazz Festival and is devoted to Pete William’s deeply resonant, powerful and spiritually infused portraits which are grounded in today’s global club culture but stem from a musical diaspora which reflects the profound impact of this thing called “Jazz!”
Pete Williams is an artist. He has produced impressive bodies of work for Far Out records and MELT/B&W but he is internationally renowned for the iconic photographic images he produced for Straight No Chaser magazine. For nigh on two decades he has worked closely with the driving force behind Chaser, editor and publisher, Paul Bradshaw and he took on commissions that mirrored Straight No Chaser’s uncompromising, outernational, cross generational musical vision. Working predominently in black & white his work is part of a lineage which gave us seminal jazz photographers like Herman Leonard and William Claxton and like them he has produced an expansive range of powerful and moving portraits that reflect our times while uniting different generations of cutting edge artists and musicians.
Back in 1988, after studying photography at the Royal College of Art, Williams met up with the Chaser crew. They had just launched a “designer fanzine” dedicated to hip, wayward genius, Thelonious Monk and committed to what they called “The Freedom Principle”. Peter is an integral member of Straight No Chaser’ worldwide family and maintains a unique and long-standing working relationship with both Paul Bradshaw and with the magazine’s art director - Ian ‘Swifty’ Swift. The results of this relationship are manifested in this powerful collection of images that features influential nu-generation dons like DJ Shadow, Reprazent, Sizzla, Soweto Kinch, The Roots, Courtney Pine and Cassandra Wilson alongside spiritual jazz legends like Don Cherry, Pharoah Sanders, Jayne Cortez, McCoy Tyner, Yusef Lateef, Steve Reid and Nina Simone. On the global front there are outstanding portraits of Brasilian songbird Flora Purim, Mali’s majestic Oumou Sangare, the unstoppable Rai rebel - Khaled, the late great Maskanda queen Busi Mhlongo and that former Brazilian Minister for Culture - Gilberto Gil.
There’s humour and humanity in these shots and an essential element of surprise – like Pete’s image of Miles Davis at London’s Festival Hall, horn at the ready, floating in the air like an eerie apparition. This show is, without doubt, one of the highlights of this year’s London International Jazz Festival and these images are a joy to behold.

No other soul band looked as fly as The Temptations did...Look at the colors!

Classic picture of Mr. Wonder!

I'm pretty speechless still......

When ever Kanye creates something, I have to wait at least 24hours before I can express what he has created. It never hits me straight away.
But when I wacthed 'Runaway' the early hours of Sunday morning, that just set me back 3 days.
I have yet to express my opinion on the short film as I am still trying to take it all in.

All I can say is, the colors are amazing from the shots to the music.
I'll be back soon with a rundown!

Magnetic Man live at Maida Vale

Magnetic Man ft. Katy B - Perfect Stranger
I watched this a couple weeks ago and was blown away by everything. The string section also took it to the next level.
Katy B angelic vocals sound amazing as always.

Magnetic Man in Session - Magnetic Man ft. Emeli Sande - I Need Air
This has got to be my favourite out of the bunch. I love Emeli's Voice. She's the voice behind Chipmunks 'Diamond Rings' hook which I thought was incredible. She has also worked with Wiley, Professor Green and I'm sure there is more.

So much to.......

say, so much to do, so much to express. But first let me digest it all!

MTV Extended Play: Kanye West Interview

I think this is the best interview Kanye has done, why? because the you can clearly see that he is living his dream and almost doesn't know what to do with it.
It's amazing how you can be in the industry for years but only start to live your dreams years into it.
And must I add 'Flashing Lights' has got to be one of the greatest music video ever!

Kano - "Spaceship" (Official Video)

I was actually supposed to post this video the day it came out, but there was an error with posting it.
The first time I heard it, I didn't think much of the song to be honest. But then I listened to it again, and it is actually a very good song. I hear a lot of talk about how Kano is underrated, I do to. I just think he needs that one song, he has had many but I think he needs just one more to show people how relevant he is for the industry.
The video directing is sick! it was directed by Bison. and on production is Chase and Status.

Jay-Z "Decoded" book preview plus excerpts from book.

The Wall Street Journal posted some excerpts
WSJ: You’re famous for not writing your lyrics down as you compose them. What changes about them when you see them on the page like this?

Jay-Z: Some [lyrics] become really profound when you see them in writing. Not “Big Pimpin.” That’s the exception. It was like, I can’t believe I said that. And kept saying it. What kind of animal would say this sort of thing? Reading it is really harsh.
